Biographical Notes:
design element
Hon. Allen Hurkin-Torres (Ret.) has served in the Second Judicial District of the Supreme Court in Kings County, New York since 2002, where - after initially sitting as both a criminal and civil trial judge - he was placed in charge of the court's trial-ready inventory of civil cases. In that capacity, he was responsible for managing one of the largest and diverse caseloads in the United States. One of his primary responsibilities involved resolving cases through mediation, and he is credited with more than 15,000 settlements involving all genres of civil cases. Counsel have widely commented that he is a well-prepared, knowledgeable, even-handed jurist who knows how to move a case toward a meaningful settlement. Justice Hurkin-Torres is available for mediation and arbitration of every genre of civil litigation.

With more than a half-billion dollars of successful settlements involving all branches of civil litigation, Justice Hurkin-Torres has mediated and settled more cases than any other sitting judge in New York State. While his skills as a mediator are widely recognized by the Bar, they have also been recognized by the New York State Office of Court Administration, which runs New York State's court system. In this regard, he has been a frequent lecturer, teaching courses to both new and experienced judges in the art and science of mediation and settlement skills.
